Grohe and bidets: what actually gets fitted
Grohe is best known for taps and concealed frames. The brand does sell ceramics too, but a “Grohe bidet” often turns out to be one maker’s ceramic, a Grohe mixer and a frame in the wall. The fitter doesn’t mind, as long as the parts go together. Check that on the product sheets before you buy, not on fitting day.
A floor-standing bidet is bolted to the floor and connected to a waste in the floor or wall. Before drilling you need to know whether underfloor heating pipes run under the tiles. A wall-hung bidet needs a frame built into the wall, which means working before the tiling goes on or opening up a finished wall.
A bidet mixer usually has a pop-up waste and often a swivelling spout. Set up properly it doesn’t spray the wall. Set up badly, it floods the floor on first use.

Easy ways to get it wrong
- Buying a wall-hung bidet for a wall that’s already tiled. The frame means opening it up, and the job gets much bigger.
- Only a cold supply at the spot. Without a second pipe the mixer is pointless, and running hot water there is a job of its own.
- Drilling the floor blind. A punctured underfloor heating loop means a leak and broken tiles.
- Twisted or too-short flexible hoses. They move every time the lever does, and sooner or later they start to weep.
What to sort out first
- Check there are two water points and a waste where the bidet will go.
- Have the ceramic, mixer and trap on site, plus the frame for a wall-hung model.
- If the bathroom has underfloor heating, dig out the layout or photos taken before tiling.
- Photograph the wall and floor at the spot.
Before any work on the water supply, the main valve goes off and gets checked that it really holds.

Whoever fitted it answers for it and redoes a joint of his that leaks. Old pipes inside the wall and someone else’s alterations are not on him.
