Laufen: what heavy ceramic means for fitting
Laufen is a Swiss maker of bathroom ceramics. Its bidets come floor-standing and wall-hung, and the mixer is usually bought separately, often from another brand. Before buying one, check how many tap holes the ceramic has and where, because that decides what will sit on it.
A wall-hung model hangs on the frame’s two bolts. The bolt spacing, height and waste position all have to match the ceramic. If the frame was “whatever was in stock” and the bidet comes from another brand, the fitter checks compatibility before coming out, from photos and product sheets.
China doesn’t like point loads. A gasket or a thin bead of silicone goes between ceramic and wall, plastic washers go under the nuts, and the bolts are tightened evenly, a bit at a time, without force.
A floor-standing model has no frame, but you need to check whether the waste comes out of the floor or the wall and whether the bidet’s outlet suits it. It’s screwed to the floor with plugs, and the gap at the floor is closed with silicone.

Common slip-ups with Laufen bidets
- Bolts cranked tight. A crack by the fixing hole often shows up only a few days later.
- A bidet hung on an uneven wall with no gasket. The ceramic bears on one spot and moves.
- A mixer chosen without checking the holes. It won’t fit, or sits crooked and leaks under the body.
- A trap pushed into the waste without the right size connector. Dry at first, damp behind the ceramic a week later.
- Harsh cleaning chemicals. The glaze dulls and scale sticks faster.
If the bidet is already up and dripping, a repair is usually enough: a new washer, a new trap, the mixer refitted. Cracked ceramic means replacement, no way round it.
Before the visit
- Have the bidet, mixer, trap and the frame’s fixing kit on site.
- Check the frame is the one named in the bidet instructions, or matches its dimensions.
- Photograph the wall with the bolts and pipes sticking out.
Before any work on the water, the main valve or the bidet’s isolation valves go off.
Booking it
- Post the job in the app: fitting or repair, the Laufen model, which mixer and which frame. Add photos.
- Tradespeople send bids, each with his own price and date.
- Compare prices, ratings and reviews and pick one. Phone number and address are shared after you choose, and you pay him directly; the invoice comes from him.
Small fixings are normally included in the labour. The bidet, mixer, taking away old ceramic and carrying materials up are not. Whoever fitted it answers for it and redoes his own work if it fails. A frame someone else installed, or a crooked wall, is not on him.
