Below: what a plasterboard partition wall costs, when one board on each side is enough and when you need two, how to build in a door and how to prepare the room.
How much does a plasterboard partition wall cost?
Rates are in the table. A partition is usually priced per square metre, separately for single and double boarding. Mineral wool inside, a reinforced door opening, niches, arches and whether the fitter also fills the joints for painting all affect the price.
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Single-layer partition wall | 90–190 zł/m² |
| Double-layer partition wall | 120–240 zł/m² |
| Filling frame with mineral wool | 20–50 zł/m² |
| Building a drywall niche or shelf | 250–650 zł/szt |
| Building a drywall arch | 350–900 zł/szt |
| Demolishing a partition wall | 70–150 zł/m² |
Indicative prices. Ranges for a typical scope. Fixings included, materials separate. Minimum order 300 zł.
Screws and plugs are usually included. Boards, studs, wool, sealing tape, the door frame, compounds, waste removal and carrying materials in are paid separately. If you need a masonry wall instead, or something has to be knocked down, both are in the price list too.
Single or double boarded

An empty partition with one board each side acts like a drum. Mineral wool between the studs and double boarding make a big difference: a conversation in the living room stops carrying into the study. If a bedroom or a home office will be behind the wall, say so at once, because it changes the materials and the price.
System makers (Rigips, Knauf, Siniat) publish tested wall build-ups: which board, how many layers, what goes inside and how much sound the wall stops. Following one beats guesswork. What else helps against noise through a wall is covered in wall soundproofing.
A partition wall with a door
The door opening is reinforced with a stud or timber. Without it, slamming loosens the frame within weeks and cracks appear at the corners above the door. The opening width is set for a specific door frame, so it pays to choose the door before the studs go up.
Interior door installation itself is usually a separate line, done after painting. If you would rather have a door flush with the wall and no architraves, the frame for flush concealed doors is built in while the partition goes up.
Building a partition step by step
- The fitter marks the wall line on floor, ceiling and walls, usually with a laser.
- Fixes the head and floor tracks to the slab on sealing tape. To the slab, not to laminate.
- Sets the studs at the spacing given by the system maker.
- Adds noggins for cabinets, a TV and around the door opening.
- An electrician runs cables and back boxes with the power off.
- The fitter boards one side, fits the wool and boards the other side.
- Tapes the joints, leaving a gap at the ceiling for slab movement.
- Finally skim and primer for painting, if they are part of the job.
Cabinet, TV, shelf: what a plasterboard wall will hold
The board alone will not hold a kitchen cabinet or a TV bracket. Where something will hang, a noggin goes into the frame and the fixing goes into it. Ordinary masonry plugs do not hold in plasterboard; it has its own.
Mark the noggins on a plan or photograph them before the wall is closed. After filling you will not see them.
Common mistakes
- The frame screwed to laminate. The floor track goes on the slab, and the laminate is cut back to the partition.
- No gap at the ceiling. The slab deflects differently from the partition and a crack opens along the ceiling.
- No wool, on the assumption it will be quiet anyway. It will not.
- A door opening without reinforcement. The frame works loose and the corners above the door crack.
- Studs without sealing tape. The partition carries vibration from the slab.
- Masonry plugs in plasterboard. They come out together with the shelf.
Slats, glass or shelving instead of a partition
Not every room division needs a full wall. A slatted screen or a shelving unit separates zones visually but does not stop sound or close with a door. How such a screen is fitted is described in slatted wall with LED lighting.
A plasterboard partition makes sense when you need a proper room with a door, sockets and quiet. It is then lighter on the slab and quicker than masonry.
How to prepare the room
- Sketch where the partition goes, plus the door, sockets and anything heavy on the wall.
- Pick the door and frame before work starts, as they set the opening width.
- If the wall needs power, book the electrician before boarding.
- Photograph the room, floor and ceiling where the wall will stand.
- Check with the building management whether carrying long studs up the stairs or in the lift needs notice.
Example: living room and study in Wilanów
In the job, the client marks the partition, door and desk on a floor plan and adds that they will work on video calls in the study. Fitters’ offers include wool and double boarding on the study side straight away, plus a noggin where the bookshelf goes. The living room laminate is already down, so it is cut back along the wall line and the floor track goes onto the slab.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a plasterboard partition wall cost?
Current rates per square metre are in the table above. Double boarding, wool, a door opening and noggins for cabinets raise the price.
Will a plasterboard partition block sound?
An empty one with single boards, poorly. Mineral wool, double boarding and sealing tape under the tracks make a clear difference.
Can a partition wall stand on laminate?
No. The floor track is fixed to the slab, and the laminate is brought up to the partition with an expansion gap.
Can a kitchen cabinet hang on a plasterboard partition?
Yes, if the frame has a noggin at that spot. A plug in the board alone will not hold a heavy cabinet.
How long does it take to build a partition?
The frame and boards often go up in a day or two. Joints and skim dry according to the time on the compound bag, so painting comes later.
How to book a partition wall in the app
Describe in the app what you want to divide, add photos and dimensions, and mark the door, wool and places for heavy items. Fitters send their offers with a price and date. You choose whoever suits you on price and reviews, and only then do you exchange phone number and address.
You settle directly with the fitter, who issues the invoice. They are responsible for their own wall and put their mistakes right, but not for an old slab that cracks. More on plasterboard for other jobs in plasterboard installation, and for a whole flat see turnkey renovation in Warsaw.
