Bed assembly: what the job involves
A flat-pack bed is a frame, a slatted base, sometimes a storage box with gas struts, and a headboard that may need fixing to the wall. Bed assembly covers the frame, fitting the base or slats, installing the lift mechanism and checking the bed does not creak.
The price is per job. Storage beds with a lift take longer than a plain frame.
What assembly covers
- building the frame and side rails;
- fitting the base, slats or storage box floor;
- installing gas struts on a storage bed;
- fitting the headboard, including wall-mounted ones;
- tightening the joints so the bed does not creak.
Storage beds with a lift
Gas struts are matched to the mattress weight. Weak ones will not hold the base up; strong ones make it hard to lower. The struts are usually fitted with the mattress in place, so have the mattress there during assembly.
What to prepare
The boxes in the bedroom, a clear floor and the mattress. Give the bed model, size and whether it has storage in the request. If the old bed needs taking apart first, add that.

Will the tradesperson dismantle the old bed?
Yes, taking the old bed apart can go in the same request.
Why does a new bed creak?
Usually loose bolts or slats rubbing on the frame. Tightening and felt pads help.
Can a box-spring bed be assembled too?
Yes. It comes in a few large parts and usually goes together quickly.
