Leak sensor installation

A washing machine hose usually bursts at night or when nobody is home, and the water reaches the flat below before anyone notices. A leak sensor sits on the floor under the washing machine, dishwasher or sink and raises the alarm at the first drops. Fitting leak sensors means placing them at the risk points, pairing them with an app or hub and testing them.

The price is per job. The number of sensors and whether they should shut off the water affect it.

What fitting covers

• choosing spots: under the washing machine, dishwasher, sink, water heater and by the riser;
• placing the sensors on the floor or by the wall;
• pairing with the app, gateway or alarm panel;
• a wet test on every sensor;
• optionally fitting a solenoid valve that cuts the water.

Sensors with a shut-off valve

A sensor on its own only alerts. A kit with a solenoid valve or an actuator on the main stopcock shuts the water off automatically, even if nobody sees the notification. Fitting the valve means turning off the flat’s water and access to the main stopcock.

What to prepare

The sensors or kit, access under the appliances and working Wi-Fi if they are wireless. Say in the request how many sensors and whether a shut-off valve is wanted. A photo of the main stopcock helps price it.
