Fridge connection

A freestanding fridge looks like nothing more than a plug in a socket. In practice it needs levelling, the door may need swapping to open the other way if it faces a wall, and a model with an ice maker needs a water feed. Connecting a fridge covers positioning, levelling, door reversal if needed and first start-up.

The price is per job. An ice-maker water feed and reversing the door add time.

What connection covers

• positioning the fridge with a gap from the wall;
• levelling it on its feet so the doors close by themselves;
• moving the door hinges to the other side, if needed;
• connecting water to the ice maker or dispenser;
• checking the socket and switching on.

After transport

A fridge that travelled on its side should stand for a few hours before switching on, so the compressor oil settles back. The manual gives the exact time. The first cool-down takes several hours before food goes in.

What to prepare

A space that fits the fridge with room for ventilation, and an earthed socket nearby. Say in the request whether the door needs reversing and whether it has an ice maker. The old fridge can be unplugged and moved aside in the same request.
