Window sealing

Window seals harden, crack and stop sitting tight against the frame over time. The window is shut but still lets in a draught, condensation forms on the glass and the sill feels cold in winter. Window sealing means replacing the old seals with new ones that match the frame profile.

The price is per running metre of seal. A window usually takes a few metres, a balcony door more.

What the work covers

• checking whether the draught comes from the seals or loose hardware;
• choosing a seal that fits the window profile;
• removing the old seals and cleaning the grooves;
• fitting the new seals without stretching them;
• checking the pressure and adjusting the hardware if needed.

Seals or adjustment

Some draughts are not caused by the seals at all but by a sash that has dropped or closes too loosely. That is why the tradesperson checks the hardware first. New seals without adjustment only help briefly if the sash still does not sit tight.

What to prepare

Give the number of windows and balcony doors and the window brand if you know it. Take a close-up of a seal and a photo of the whole window. Move furniture so the sashes are easy to reach.
