Vinyl plank installation

Vinyl flooring does not mind water, is quieter than laminate and suits kitchens, hallways and even bathrooms. It is also thinner and softer, so any unevenness in the base eventually shows through the surface. Laying vinyl planks means preparing the base and fitting the planks as click or glue-down.

The price is per square metre. Self-levelling compound, if needed, is a separate item.

How laying works

• checking the base is flat and dry;
• sanding and vacuuming the screed;
• a vinyl-specific underlay for click planks;
• full-spread adhesive for glue-down planks;
• cutting round walls, pipes and door frames, then skirting.

Click or glue-down

Click vinyl goes down faster and can be lifted later. Glue-down, or dryback, is thinner, bonds to the base and works well over underfloor heating, but needs a very flat screed. You choose the type when buying, and that decides the method.

What to prepare

An empty room, acclimatised planks, the floor area and photos of the base. Say in the request whether the vinyl is click or glue-down and whether there is underfloor heating.
