What to check before fitting a Roca basin
Roca is a Spanish bathroom maker, and its basins come in all the usual forms: wall-hung, countertop, on a pedestal or semi-pedestal, and set into a vanity unit. Each one is fixed differently. A wall-hung basin hangs on bolts in the wall, a countertop one relies on the worktop and its brackets, and with a vanity it all comes down to how well the unit itself is fixed.
The bolts and plugs in the box are meant for solid brick or concrete. Plasterboard or old plaster over hollow blocks needs different anchors or a frame inside the wall. A good fitter checks this before drilling, because afterwards it’s too late.
The other thing is the height and spacing of the water and waste outlets. If the pipes come out of the wall somewhere other than where the new basin expects them, the pipework has to be moved, and that’s a separate line in the bid.

Mistakes that show up weeks later
- Wall plugs that don’t suit the wall. It holds at first, then the basin slowly pulls away from the tiles.
- No sealant between basin and wall, or only along the top. Water gets into the gap and the tiles darken.
- An overtightened trap. The plastic nut cracks and starts dripping a few days later.
- Old isolation valves left in because they “still work”. The next time someone turns them, they don’t.
Sometimes nothing needs replacing. If the ceramic is intact and the drip comes from the trap, or the basin has pulled off the wall, a new washer, a new trap or proper anchors will do. A cracked bowl is a different story: glue won’t save it.
Getting ready
- Check whether the tap, trap and waste come with the basin or need buying.
- Measure where the pipes leave the wall and compare it with the basin’s drawing.
- Empty the vanity unit and clear space by the wall.
The water is turned off before any work starts. If the valves under the basin don’t hold, the main valve for the flat goes off.
How to book it
Take photos of the old basin, the wall and the pipe outlets, note the Roca model and describe the job in the app. Tradespeople who take this kind of work reply with bids at their own price. You choose on price, ratings and reviews, and the phone number and address are shared once you’ve picked someone. You pay him directly and he issues the invoice.
Plugs and bolts are usually part of the labour. The basin, tap, taking away the old ceramic and carrying materials up are charged on top. Whoever fitted it answers for it and will redo a joint of his that leaks. A crumbling wall or corroded old pipes are not on him.
