Bidet Installation: Cost, Connections and Space Needed

A bidet is basically a small basin at toilet height. It needs hot and cold water, a waste with a trap and its own mixer tap. In many bathrooms only one cold pipe comes out of the wall next to the WC, and nobody notices until fitting day.

Bidet Installation: Cost, Connections and Space Needed

Below: what bidet installation costs, how a floor-standing model differs from a wall-hung one, how much space to leave between bidet and toilet, and what to prepare so the job is done in one visit.

How much does bidet installation cost?

Current rates are in the table below. The price depends mostly on what is already in the wall. Two angle valves and a waste at the right height mean a short job for a floor-standing bidet. A wall-hung bidet on a new frame, rerouted pipes or opening up finished tiles add several lines to the same quote.

Service price table
ServicePrice
Install bidet250–600 zł/szt
Install bidet toilet seat150–350 zł/szt
Wall-hung toilet installation (frame)450–700 zł
WC frame boxing-in370–480 zł/szt

Indicative prices. Ranges for a typical scope. Fixings included, materials separate. Minimum order 300 zł.

Fixings and small fitting materials are usually included. The ceramic, mixer, trap, frame, hot water run, removal of old sanitaryware and carrying materials in are paid separately. If there is no room for a separate bidet, the table also covers fitting a bidet seat on the toilet.

Floor-standing or wall-hung

Fitting a wall-hung bidet on a concealed frame: connecting the mixer and trap

A floor-standing bidet is screwed to the floor on plugs, with the connections coming from the wall behind it. It needs no boxing in, so it can be added even after the bathroom is finished. Before drilling you only need to know whether underfloor heating runs beneath the tiles.

A wall-hung bidet sits on its own concealed frame. That is not a toilet frame: the bolt spacing and waste position differ, even if both come from the same product family. The frame goes in before tiling, just as with wall-hung toilet installation. If the wall is already tiled, it has to be opened up.

A wall-hung bidet makes floor cleaning easier and looks lighter. A floor-standing one is simpler and cheaper to fit. The choice usually comes down to the state of the wall, not looks.

How much space do a WC and bidet need side by side

Bidet next to a toilet in a small bathroom: measuring clearances before fitting

On the drawing everything fits. In the room a few centimetres between ceramic and wall decide it, so the space is checked with a tape before anyone chases the wall for pipes. Minimum clearances to the wall and to the toilet are given by the manufacturer on the product sheet and in the fitting instructions.

You need to sit down comfortably, so allow room at the sides too. A bidet squeezed in by force soon becomes a towel shelf. Plan the towel hook while you are at it: a hook added later means another hole in finished tiles.

Bidet installation step by step

  1. The fitter turns off the water and checks for two angle valves (hot and cold) and a waste at the height given in the ceramic’s instructions.
  2. For a wall-hung model, they install and level the frame, then bring the bolts and connections through once the wall is boarded.
  3. The mixer, pop-up waste and hoses go onto the ceramic before the bidet is set in place, as access from below is tight later.
  4. The ceramic is fixed on washers and the bolts are tightened evenly, in turns, without overdoing it.
  5. The trap is connected to the waste pipe with a seal sized to the pipe.
  6. The mixer hoses are connected to the valves without stretching or twisting.
  7. The gap at the floor or wall is closed with sanitary silicone.
  8. Finally the water goes back on, joints are checked for leaks and the water drains away instead of pooling at the rim.

Roca, Cersanit, Grohe, Laufen: what to check before buying

Hanging a ceramic bidet: tightening the frame bolts evenly

Roca, a Spanish ceramics maker, sells bidets in series with matching toilets, floor-standing and wall-hung. Polish brand Cersanit works the same way and is a common pick for small bathrooms. Laufen from Switzerland makes heavy porcelain that dislikes point pressure, so plastic washers go under the nuts.

Grohe is known for mixers and concealed frames. A “Grohe bidet” is often another brand’s ceramic with a Grohe mixer and frame. That makes no difference to the fitter as long as the parts match.

Before buying, compare three things on the product sheets: frame bolt spacing, waste height and the number of tap holes. Also check whether the mixer comes with a pop-up waste, as not every model does.

Common bidet installation mistakes

  • Only cold water connected. The bidet works, but nobody can use it.
  • A toilet frame used for a bidet. The bolts and waste do not line up with the ceramic.
  • Drilling a heated floor blind. A punctured pipe means lifting tiles.
  • Bolts tightened by force. A crack at the fixing hole sometimes shows only days later.
  • Hoses stretched because the valves are too far away. They flex with every lever movement and start to weep.
  • A trap without the right seal. Damp gathers behind the ceramic where nobody looks.
  • Mixer connected the wrong way round, hot water on the cold side.
  • No silicone at the base. Water and dirt get under the ceramic.

Bidet repair instead of replacement

A dripping mixer, a leaking trap or a pop-up that does not hold water are usually small repairs: a new cartridge, seals or a whole new trap. The ceramic is replaced only when it is cracked or the bathroom is being rebuilt. If you are also changing the frame in the wall, see how toilet frame replacement works.

How to prepare the bathroom before the fitter arrives

  • Measure the space and compare it with the dimensions on the product sheet.
  • Check the wall has two valves and a waste, and photograph them.
  • With underfloor heating, find the loop plan or photos taken before tiling.
  • Have the ceramic, mixer, trap and pop-up waste on site, plus the frame for a wall-hung model.
  • If hot water needs to be run to the spot, say so in the job. That is plumbing work, rates are on the page plumbing services in Warsaw.

Before any work on the supply pipes, hot and cold water are turned off and the valve is checked to make sure it really holds.

Example: a bidet in a small bathroom in Ochota

A block-of-flats bathroom of a few square metres, with a toilet and bidet planned side by side. Photos in the job show one cold supply by the WC and no second waste. The fitter splits the quote into bidet installation and pipe alterations, so the client knows what they are paying for before anyone arrives with tools.

The order is agreed straight away: pipes and frame first, then tiling, ceramics last. What the tiling itself costs and what pushes the price up is covered in bathroom tiling: what you pay for.

Frequently asked questions

Does a bidet need hot water?

Yes. A bidet mixer blends hot and cold water. It can be connected to cold only, but it is unpleasant to use. Running hot water to it is a separate line in the quote.

How much space do a toilet and bidet need?

The manufacturer gives minimum clearances on the product sheet. Add room at the sides so you can sit down comfortably. Measure the bathroom before buying the ceramic.

Can a wall-hung bidet go on a toilet frame?

No. The bolts and waste are in different places. A wall-hung bidet needs its own frame, often from the same family as the toilet frame.

Can a bidet be fitted in a bathroom that is already tiled?

A floor-standing one can, if the wall has connections. A wall-hung one means opening the wall for the frame. If that is not an option, consider a bidet seat on the toilet.

Who buys the mixer and trap?

Usually the client, together with the ceramic. From photos the fitter can tell you what fits the tap hole. Mention in the job what you already have.

Can a fitter repair a leaking bidet?

Yes. Replacing seals, the mixer cartridge or the trap is a routine small repair, priced like any other line in the table.

How to book bidet installation in the app

Describe in the app whether you need fitting or a repair, which bidet it is and what connections are in the wall. Add photos of the wall, pipes and ceramic, so the fitter can judge the scope before coming. Fitters send offers with their own price and date, and you pick one by price, ratings and reviews. Phone number and address are shared only after you choose.

You pay the fitter directly and they issue the invoice. Whoever did the fitting is responsible for it and puts it right if anything leaks. Old pipes in the wall and earlier work by others are not their responsibility. If the bidet is part of a bigger refit, see bathroom renovation in Warsaw.
