What the job covers

Swapping a socket or fitting a light is a small job, not a renovation. You describe it in the app, electricians reply with offers at their own price, and you pay the one you chose directly. When there are several small jobs that are hard to price one by one, an electrician by the hour makes more sense: they charge for time, usually 250–300 zł an hour. You can post an urgent job with a surcharge for a fast call-out, but who comes and when depends on which electricians are free at the time.

  • Socket and switch replacement
  • Fitting lamps, chandeliers and LED strips
  • Motion sensors and outdoor lighting
  • Finding and fixing faults
  • Connecting hobs, ovens and appliances
  • Hourly work and urgent jobs with a surcharge

Typical jobs for an electrician

In flats it is mostly about sockets, switches and lighting. Socket installation after a renovation, replacing a socket that heats up or falls out of its box, a ceiling light in place of an old chandelier, LED strip under the cabinets. Where there is no socket near the desk or the TV, you need a new electrical point with a cable run to it.

The second big group is kitchen and bathroom appliances: connecting an induction hob, an oven or a water heater. More and more people also book small automation jobs: motion sensors in the hallway and by the front door, or smoke and CO detectors.

Old wiring and new flats

Older blocks and tenements in Śródmieście or Praga still sometimes have two-wire aluminium wiring with no earth. With wiring like that, replacing a single socket can reveal that a wider inspection is due. The electrician will say so plainly and separate the small repair from the bigger issue that needs its own quote.

In new developer flats, in Białołęka or Wilanów for example, the problem is a different one: too few circuits in the kitchen. Several power-hungry appliances on one circuit means a tripping breaker. Before adding more sockets, it is worth asking the electrician where the power should come from.

How to describe the fault

Say exactly what is happening: which sockets are dead, whether a breaker trips and with which appliance, whether anything sparks or smells of burning. Add a photo of the consumer unit with its labels and of the fault itself. With that, electricians in the app can make a real offer rather than just “I will have a look on site”.

What affects the price

For small jobs an electrician usually prices per item or per point. The amount in the offer depends on:

  • how many points: one socket is priced differently from five across the flat
  • fault finding, since the cause has to be found first and that is often charged by the hour
  • the state of the wiring: loose back boxes and old cables make the job longer
  • the weight of the light and the ceiling height, especially for a chandelier on a hook
  • timing: a fast call-out, nights and weekends carry a surcharge shown in the price list

What to watch out for

  • Working without switching off the breaker

A wall switch does not cut power to everything. Before any work, the right breaker goes off and a tester confirms there is no voltage. Keep your hands off damaged cables.

  • Leaving a burning smell for later

Smell burning, a hot socket or sparks? Switch off the breaker for that circuit or the main switch and stop using it. If there is smoke or fire, dial 112. Finding an electrician in the app comes after that.

  • Treating a building-wide outage as a job for an electrician

If the neighbours and the stairwell are dark too, the problem is usually in the building supply. Report it to the building administration or the grid operator; an electrician for your flat cannot fix it.

  • A heavy chandelier on any old plug

A glass light needs a hook or anchor suited to the ceiling. A standard wall plug in plasterboard will not hold it.

Before the visit

  1. A photo of the socket, the light or the fuse board
  2. A line on the problem: what stopped working, since when, and whether the breaker trips
  3. The light, sockets or LED strip already bought (or agree who buys them)
  4. Clear access to the fuse board
  5. The ceiling height, if a light is going up

Questions about electrician services

Is it safe?

Switch off the power and check there is no voltage before any work starts. Electrical work should be done by someone qualified for it. Do not touch damaged cables or live parts. If there is smoke or fire, dial 112.

Is there an emergency electrician?

In the app you can mark a job as urgent or ask for night or weekend work; both come with a surcharge. We do not promise an arrival time, because it depends on which electricians are free, whether you are in Wola or Ursynów. You see the timing in the offer before you choose anyone.

How does an electrician by the hour work in Warsaw?

With several small tasks or a fault to track down, the electrician can charge for time instead of price-list items. The rate is usually 250–300 zł an hour, materials extra.

How much is a socket swap?

The price list shows the range. The electrician gives the exact amount in the offer, and a photo of the socket and wiring helps them work it out.

Are materials included?

No. The offer covers labour, and small fixings are usually included. You buy the light, sockets or strip yourself, or ask the electrician to buy them and pay for them on top.

Who is responsible for the work and issues the invoice?

The electrician who does it. The app only connects you: there you see offers and ratings and agree the scope.

Is the electrician qualified?

In the offer and the tradesperson’s profile you can see their experience, and you can ask about their SEP qualifications in the chat before choosing.

What should I do if a breaker keeps tripping?

Unplug the appliances on that circuit and try resetting the breaker. If it trips again straight away, stop there and describe the situation in the job.

Will an electrician rewire the whole flat?

Rewiring a whole flat is a big project. Describe it in the app, and suitably qualified tradespeople will quote after an inspection.
