Venetian blind installation

Horizontal Venetian blinds with aluminium or wooden slats let you control the light without covering the whole window. They are fixed to the sash, inside the recess or above the window. To stop the slats tangling or knocking the handle, the blind has to hang perfectly level and at the right distance from the glass.

The price is per job and depends on the number of blinds and how they are fixed.

What the installation covers

• marking the bracket positions and checking the blind clears the handle;
• fixing the brackets with screws into the frame or plugs in the wall;
• hanging and levelling the blind;
• fitting the bottom guide cords, if included;
• checking the slat tilt and lifting.

Blinds on the window sash

On tilt-and-turn windows the blind usually goes on the sash, with guide cords at the bottom. That way the window can tilt open and the slats do not swing. It takes a few small holes in the frame, which the tradesperson places away from the hardware.

What to prepare

Blinds bought to size, with their brackets. Give the number of windows and the fixing position, and add a photo of a window with its handle. If the window has a trickle vent, mention it, as it can affect where the brackets go.
