Baseboard installation in Warsaw — a neat finishing touch

Baseboard installation in Warsaw — a neat finishing touch — HandyMan24 Warsaw

A skirting board is that small finishing touch that completes a room. Without it, the expansion gaps along the walls stay in sight, underlay edges poke out, and dust builds up in the openings. PVC, MDF, solid wood — each one is fixed differently and each comes with its own problems. We install skirting boards across Warsaw, often during the same visit as the floor fitting.

Installation cost

The cost is based on the perimeter length, the skirting material, and how many corners there are. Up-to-date rates are listed in the table below. Fixings are included; skirting boards and accessories are provided by the client.

How the installation works

  1. Measure the perimeter and count corners (internal and external) as well as all joints.
  2. Cut the skirting boards at 45° for mitred joints (MDF/wood) or choose the right connectors (PVC).
  3. Fix to the wall: wall plugs and screws (concrete/brick), screws (plasterboard), or adhesive (on flat walls).
  4. Install corner and joining pieces.
  5. Feed cables through the cable channel (if there is one).
  6. Check that everything sits flush — no gaps.

Common mistakes

  • Gluing skirting onto an uneven wall — after a month it comes loose and leaves adhesive stains behind.
  • Cutting without a mitre box — the joints fail to line up properly and gaps are visible.
  • Pushing it too tightly against the floor — when laminate expands, the skirting splits.
  • Missing the cable channel — later the wires end up running outside.
  • PVC skirting with a hardwood floor — it looks cheap and doesn’t match the style.

What to prepare

  • Buy skirting boards and accessories (corners, end caps, connectors) — add a 5 % margin.
  • The floor has to be finished before the skirting goes on.
  • Move furniture at least 30 cm away from the walls.
  • If you want cables hidden — have them prepared beforehand.

A real case from Warsaw

A flat in Praga-Południe, 60 m² — after the laminate was laid, the technician installed white MDF skirting boards along the full perimeter. 48 linear metres, 12 internal corners, 4 external. The whole job took three hours. The owners picked skirting with a cable channel — the internet and aerial cables were hidden inside. Neat and tidy (compatible with Quick-Step, Egger, Kronopol and similar).

Frequently asked questions

Which skirting is better — PVC or MDF?

PVC costs less and is easier to install, but the look is plainer. MDF costs more and looks better, but it is not resistant to water. For a bathroom — PVC or polyurethane only.

Can skirting be fitted without drilling?

Yes, using construction adhesive — but only on flat walls. If the walls are uneven, the adhesive will not hold.

Does skirting attach to the wall or the floor?

Always to the wall. It should never be fixed to the floor — laminate must be able to expand freely underneath.
