Who buys the materials, and what does the price include?
In short The price usually covers the labour and small fixings. The client buys the materials, and removing rubble or carrying materials in are separate items. Agree on this before work starts.
The price most often covers labour and small fixings such as wall plugs and screws. Materials, meaning tiles, paint, panels, a tap or a lamp, you buy yourself. That’s how professionals usually charge, and that’s how our price pages describe it.
What is often charged separately
- Carrying out and taking away rubble, old furniture and packaging.
- Carrying materials in, especially heavy ones with no lift.
- Materials bought by the professional, if you ask them to.
Each professional sets their own prices, so for a specific offer, ask in the messages what exactly it covers. Better to ask one question too many than to argue at payment time.
When the professional buys the materials
- Agree on an amount or a spending cap before they go to the shop.
- Ask for a receipt or an invoice for the materials.
- Write down what you agreed in the platform messages, not just on the phone.
If you buy them yourself
Before buying, ask the professional about quantities and specifications. They’ll tell you how much extra to get and what to avoid. The wrong part bought in a hurry often means a second visit.
