What should I bring to a job?
In short The tools for this particular job, spare fixings, things to protect the home and a charged phone for the photos in the app.
Pack for the specific job, not a whole van “just in case”. Look through the client’s description and photos once more.
A list for most small jobs
- A drill or screwdriver with charged batteries, and a set of drill bits and screwdriver bits.
- A spirit level, tape measure, pencil and cable detector.
- Fixings for different walls: plugs for concrete, brick and plasterboard.
- Sheeting or a blanket for the floor, masking tape, waste bags, a vacuum cleaner.
- Safety glasses, gloves, a dust mask.
- A voltage tester, if the job involves sockets, lamps or fittings.
- An extension lead and a torch, because the power in the room may be off.
Your phone is a tool too
You take the “before” and “after” photos in the app. Charge your phone and carry a power bank. Signal can be weak in a basement or a new building. A missing “before” photo because of a network failure isn’t in itself evidence that the work wasn’t done, but it’s better to have it straight away.
Check the materials the client is buying before you set off: ask for a photo of the packaging or the dimensions. It’ll save you a second trip.
